From Bill's point of view, Jeff has it all--a wife, a home, a great job and stability. Bill would also like that but can't seem to meet the right girl. But Bill also has his eye on a particular woman, and he has a plan to meet her, but he needs Jeff's help. Jeff will play the part of a street mugger and Bill will come to her rescue. He'll chase Jeff away and now he has a perfect "in" to meet the girl of his dreams. Keep dreaming, Bill. She has other plans.

Read all the multi-packs and shorts packs long ago, since 2012. The author has gotten better with age/practice. I've read almost all of the Cooper stories (1 - 230) and several of Mr. Bernico's short stories and most have not disappointed me. You'll find some poorly written or predictable stories, but for the most part they are fair to good. The Cooper series are better, but there's a few stinkers, too. They're great for a coffee break or a few minutes to relax.
Bill thought Jeff had it made. So why did he want to keep hanging out at HIS apartment instead of being at home - at that NICE home? After all, in Bill's mind, Jeff had everything he could ever want a job, a house, "material possessions up to (his) armpits,", a wife, stability.... Well, turns out material possessions aren't as important as one might think. There is more to life than "stuff".
As they talked, Jeff decided to help Bill meet a girl he'd been noticing for a while. He had a plan that was sure to work, and they practiced until they were ready to put it into action.
But would the plan really work as well as they believed it would? Would this really be the right girl for Bill - the one who would be the beginning of HIS perfect life. The life he wanted with the house and the car and the kids?
Or were Jeff and Bill overconfident? Thinking too much of "the plan"? And would this girl have a plan of her own?
This was a fun little story. I am not saying whether Bill got the girl or not you will have to find that out for yourself. However, the story only takes a few minutes to read so why not grab a cup of coffee or a soda and enjoy? You will have one more reason to become a Bernico fan.
